Martin Turner's book of poems is unusual because he does not claim to be a poet. It is different, too, because he never studied or tried to learn about the different forms poetry can take. Almost all his work appears to be triggered by someone or something in his life and then simply pours onto the page from some deep source in his head. It may be his own experiences that explain why this book attempts to reveal how even the darkest times that we all experience from time to time can pass, and life become good and fulfilling again. Quite a number of these poems are about love and were inspired by love. Martin Turner is a fortunate man to have shared life and love with the different muses who have inspired him and given him the ability to write down his thoughts and feelings. Because of these muses he clearly never had to sit and try to think what to write. It is also evident that in his poems he enjoys using the beautiful words of the English language to create images in the mind of the reader.
Martin Turner's adult working life started in London advertising agencies and in the 1960s he very much enjoyed working in such a creative and insecure world with some amazing and very talented people. Later, he started a design consultancy in Covent Garden with two colleagues and grew the business to more than twenty of the most creative, crazy and industrious people in London. These colleagues showed him how creativity is not limited to words or designs, or even music, but is a way of thinking, living, and using imagination; then there are no limits because imagination has no limits. Ideas and imagination have since been the main element in his second career as a carver and sculptor. And it was the need to express his thoughts that led him to write the pieces in this book. .He did not write a poem until he was 49 and was not sure he could. He asks you, his reader, to make up your own mind about that.
