ASSESSMENT OF POLLUTION THROUGH BENTHIC ASSEMBLAGES

These regions are experiencing rapid development and therefore, hectic human interference with the environment. Around 25km stretch of Buckingham Canal in Tamilnadu, India, near Ennore Creek had been selected as the study area. Various types of pollution such as thermal pollution, industrial and aqua culture pollution exists in the Canal. Six Stations were identified in the study area based on the various types of pollution existing. The present study examined the change in benthic community in the Buckingham Canal, Ennore due to various stresses.
