Al-Kashi's Geographical Tables

Jamshid Ghyath al-Din al-Kashi (fl. 1420), a native of central Iran, worked at the Samarqand observatory of Sultan Ulugh Beg, grandson of Tamerlane. Kashi is best known as a virtuoso of computational mathematics, but he was also a competent astronomer. Among his major works is the "Zij-i Khaqani," an astronomical handbook written in Persian. The zij contains a list giving the latitudes & longitudes of some 515 places, mostly cities, the subject of this paper. Contents: Introduction; The Table; Analysis of the Table; & Bibliography.
