D. D. Murphry, Secret Policeman

Will the secret policeman crack the case, or is he, himself, just cracked? D.D. Murphry poses as a homeless man while secretly working for the True Government. With words as his sidekick, he can read the coded messages-instructions from his employer-hidden in almost any block of text. Though his crime-fighting efforts are a thankless job that forces him to stay in the city's homeless encampments and leaves him scrounging to earn enough to keep himself fed, clothed, and clean, it will all be worth it if, by his sacrifice, he wins the heart of his beloved, the librarian, Kate. You'll root for him as the hero of this story even as you cringe at his villainous deeds.
