Approaches to animals occur in diverse ways - however there is still a need to research the broad spectrum of methodological approaches. It is against this backdrop that this volume dedicates itself to the methodologies of research on animals in the natural sciences and the humanities. From the perspective of animal husbandry, of livestock ethology, medievalism, theology and philosophy, as well as history and art history, methodologies and discussions around the figure of the animal are presented. The essays collected analyze topics such as the debates around Marius the giraffe, Jean-Henri Fabre's insect observations, spatial orders of menageries and zoos, attempts at releasing animals back into the wild as well as the breeding evaluation of milk cattle and the monitoring of milk cows.
