Der weiße Mann

The decline in white male dominance, as desirable as it may be, holds explosive potential. This includes the temptation to confuse decentralization with marginalization and privilege reduction with discrimination, and ultimately to pity oneself as a »victim of victims«. The attacks of Anders Breivik have exposed the dangers of a masculinity that feels threatened. The self-reflexion of white men is overdue ever since. But it is also a delicate matter. As the privileged ones, they cannot address issues in the same way as those who find themselves pushed to the edges of the world they dominate. Exposing the dilemma in which white men are caught today opens an exit route beyond self pity and hubris.
