Ethnomedicinal studies from Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India

This book is dealing with the Ethnomedicinal studies from agency area of Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradeh, India. Ethnomedicine is the study of traditional healthcare methods which are based on indigenous cultural beliefs and practices and It has been recognized as a multidisciplinary science comprising many interesting and useful aspects of plant sciences. Visakhapatnam district is one of the north eastern coastal district of Andhra Pradesh with 11 mandals are situated in the hilly terries known as the agency area. Data is collected on the plant parts used, method of preparation of the crude drug, its dosage, mode of administration practised on all the medicinal plants which were used in treating various ailments. Traditional uses of 181 plant species belonging to 154 genera representing 81 families have been recorded which are being potentially exploited by the tribal groups in curing different human and veterinary ailments. In total, 136 different therapeutic uses for the treatment of human diseases/ailments have been recorded for the cited plants. It concluded that folk medicine practised by tribal people are still dependent on indigenous knowledge for health care.
