This book focuses on the dynamic and rapidly expanding field of transnational higher education (TNE). Despite the increasing importance of TNE and the interest it has attracted from various stakeholders, there is a lack of theoretical and empirical evidence on several aspects pertaining to its operation and governance. This book provides a unique combination of contributions from researchers and practitioners in a wide variety of case studies from TNE exporting countries in Europe and Asia. In doing so, the editors, with added support from Dr Christopher Hill, examine how this gap between research and practice can be bridged. This valuable edited collection will be of use to researchers and practitioners in transnational education, as well as students and scholars of international education and higher education policy.
William Lawton is a Higher Education Consultant who was Director of the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education and a founding member of Universities UK International. He has authored reports for HEFCE, Jisc, the British Council and several other organisations. His interests are in TNE, mobility, digital learning and government policy. He was a university lecturer in the 1990s and political analyst at the Canadian High Commission in London.
Vangelis Tsiligiris is Principal Lecturer at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University, UK. He has had broad experience in transnational education; having developed and managed the overseas partnerships of several European universities. An active researcher with publications in academic journals and organisations such as the British Council. He has acted as advisor to the Greek and Maltese governments and in 2016 he founded the TNE-Hub, an international community of researchers and practitioners in transnational education.
