For many, it is an inexpensive and easy way to prevent cavities. For others, small doses of a hazardous toxin are being administered, and that has serious consequences not only on teeth and bones, but also on the central nervous system and our cognitive abilities.

Catherine Dumont is an author and historian. Named as Distinguished Professor of American Studies and History, her research interests include the construction of racial identity and class structures.
