Gelebter Islam

In order to represent the diversity and dynamism of Islamic religious practice in Germany - which includes much more than the display of symbols or the demand for societal recognition - Theresa Beilschmidt investigates how the religious life of members of the mosque communities of the Turkish-Islamic Union for Religious Affairs of Germany (DITIB) is shaped. This empirical study, based on field research and interviews, shows that the practice of a subjectivized, everyday religiosity is at the heart of this, and not the promotion of Islam as an object of (trans-)state integration policies. With this, the study makes an important contribution to the sociology of Islam, which is just now gradually establishing itself.

Theresa Beilschmidt (Dr. rer. soc.), geb. 1984, promovierte am Institut für Soziologie der Justus-Liebig-Universität Gießen und arbeitet als Referentin im Bereich Migration, Religion und Integration.
