Guide to Big Data Applications

This handbook brings together a variety of approaches to the uses of big data in multiple fields, primarily science, medicine, and business. This single resource features contributions from researchers around the world from a variety of fields, where they share their findings and experience. This book is intended to help spur further innovation in big data. The research is presented in a way that allows readers, regardless of their field of study, to learn from how applications have proven successful and how similar applications could be used in their own field. Contributions stem from researchers in fields such as physics,   biology, energy, healthcare, and   business. The contributors also discuss important topics such as fraud detection, privacy implications, legal perspectives, and ethical handling of big data.



S. Srinivasan, Ph.D. is a Professor and Chairman of Division of International Business & Technology Studies with A.R. Sanchez School of Business at Texas A & M International University. After completing his PhD at the University of Pittsburgh, he worked at Carlow College (Pittsburgh, PA); University of Akron (Akron, OH); and Austin Peay State University (Clarksville, TN) before settling at the University of Louisville (Louisville, KY) where he spent 23 years. He started the Information Security program there, which became one of the National Centers of Academic Excellence. He moved to Texas A&M International University (Laredo, TX) as Chairman in 2010. He is now at Texas Southern University (Houston, TX) as the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Research, as well as a distinguished professor in the Jesse H. Jones School of Business. His two books on cloud computing, Security, Trust and Regulatory Aspects of Cloud Computing in Business Environments (IGI Global) and Cloud Computing Basics (Springer), were published in 2014. His research interests are in the area of information security. He has published several papers both in mathematics and computer science, and has offered seminars at several conferences. He spent his sabbatical years at Siemens (Munich, Germany) (1994); UPS Air Group (Louisville, KY) (2000-2001); and GE Appliance Park (Louisville, KY) (2007-2008). In addition, he has done consulting work for IBM, the US Army, and several other smaller companies over the years.
