Originally published in 1865, this early novel is both expensive and hard to find in its first edition. It is a fictional work by American author Mary Mapes Dodge and is a tale of early nineteenth century Dutch life, as well as a tale of youthful honour. The title of the book refers to the beautiful silver skates to be awarded to winner of the ice-skating race Hans Brinker hopes to enter.
