How do learning theories help us to promote successful learners?

Essay from the year 2012 in the subject Pedagogy - General, grade: 80, University of Cumbria, course: Secondary Mathematics Teaching, language: English, abstract: There are numerous varied theories of how children learn and how they acquire new knowledge to the point that they competently retain and apply what they have learnt unconsciously. An awareness of certain learning theories may be conducive to a teacher's practice as they may then be able to adapt their teaching so that it conforms to the style in which students naturally learn. However, it might be hard to ensure that every pupil has their learning style suitably reinforced as there may be a large spectrum of the ways in which pupils learn within a class.

Hard-working and conscientious individual. I was awarded first class honours in my Secondary Teaching with Mathematics degree. I've also had a successful writing career, with my dissertation (which received a mark of 82) being published in an academic journal. Furthermore, I'm a published author, contributing to several educational books on the topic of teaching. I have worked as both a professional and freelance proofreader for four years and currently run a successful proofreading business. My work has allowed me to edit PhD theses, Masters and Undergraduate level essays, including dissertations. I'm currently hoping to publish a book which helps students to have a successful University experience by advising them in all areas of University life.
