Impact of Microfinance in Cameroon

Microfinance-the provision of financial services to low-income people-is seen as an essential tool for facilitating financial inclusion and building long-term resilience to unforeseen challenges for vulnerable individuals, households, and microenterprises. Thus, microfinance has become a fashionable device in credit markets as an effective tool for poverty reduction and socioeconomic development. However, its impact remains questionable and varies from region to region and city to city. The purpose of this book is to analyze the role of Cameroonian microfinance in the fight against poverty. The research undertaken attempts to measure the effectiveness of the microcredit system put in place by the main microfinance institutions established in the northern part of the country by assessing the impact of microcredit loans on the individual situation of the borrower, the household, and the microenterprise. In addition, the study examines the determinants of loan repayment problems among borrowers of large microfinance networks.
