Small towns often play critical roles in regional economic systems. The authors of this volume show how small towns can meet the challenge of a globalized world, and they use case studies to introduce movements, programs, and strategies capable of effectively promoting local cultures, traditions, identities, and sustainability.

Paul L. Knox ist University Distinguished Professor und ehemaliger Dekan am College of Architecture and Urban Studies der Virginia Tech Universität. Er ist Autor verschiedener Bücher, u.a. Urbanization (2005, gemeinsam mit L. McCarthy), Urban Social Geography (2005, mit S. Pinch), The Geography of the World (2008, mit J. Agnew und L. McCarthy).

Heike Mayer ist Professorin für Stadt- und Regionalplanung an der Virginia Tech Universität. Sie ist Autorin und publizierte u.a. in Journal of the American Planning Association, Journal of Urban Affairs, Economic Development Quarterly, Economic Development Journal, Die Alte Stadt, Geographische Rundschau International und für die Brookings Institution.
