MANAGEMENT OF TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS IN THE ELDERLY

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) is a disease of great public health importance, being the most common non-communicable disease, caused by a combination of genetic, environmental and behavioral factors.The Intervention Mapping (IM) methodology is described as a strategy to develop health promotion programs, based on theory and evidence, characterized by three perspectives with an approach in primary and community care, which are: ecological approach since it considers the elements of the environment, the participation of all stakeholders, both patients, community and health personnel, and finally the use of theories.The self-management of older adult patients in Mexico, with a diagnosis of T2DM, has been inadequately addressed with patient-centered interventions, forgetting those focused on primary care, prevention, health education, so through a proposal for MI, Stage 1, a comprehensive program is proposed, impacting on the quality of life of older adults through health promotion.
