Mindfulness and Meditation at University

Why should the concepts of mindfulness and meditation be taught in universities? What are the potential impacts of such an undertaking on the education system and its students? Andreas de Bruin showcases the outcomes of the Munich model, »Mindfulness and Meditation in a University Context«, implemented from 2010 to 2020, in which 2000 students participated. In addition to an overview of current research on mindfulness and meditation, in-depth analyses and explanations of important terms related to these practices, the book also contains numerous practical exercises with instructions.

Andreas de Bruin (Prof. Dr.) is the founder and head of the Munich Model »Mindfulness and Meditation at University« - one of the first programs in Europe to offer university classes in mindfulness and meditation for educational credits (ECTS). In addition to the regular courses, he also runs projects for (former) students, teaching staff, and university employees. To share his experiences, de Bruin works closely with other universities in Germany and abroad. De Bruin's main fields of research and teaching are mindfulness and meditation, in particular the effects of these practices on the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social levels. He started his own meditation practice in 1991.
