Mobile Phone Usage during Nights among Male and Female Undergraduate Students and Sleep Disruption in Malaysia

Bachelor Thesis from the year 2016 in the subject Psychology - General, grade: 3.67, , course: BSc (Hons) Psychology, language: English, abstract: The key purpose of this research is to identify the effects of mobile phone usage during nights and sleep disruption among undergraduate students. In today's world, technology has taken a huge role and caused a strong impact in every individual's life and one of the most prominent usages under the world of technology had been the mobile phone. The mobile phone usage is highly significant among the younger generation. This study has been conducted among the undergraduate students of Segi Kuala Lumpur. This research aims to study on the effects of the late night usage of mobile phone among these undergraduate students and their sleep quality. A total of 80 students were drawn in for this research and it was conducted in Segi College Kuala Lumpur. Data were collected in the form of questionnaire, a quantitative approach in which the participants were provided with questionnaire consisting of 27 questions including 2 sub questions. Questions were in the form of dichotomous scale, nominal scale, ordinal scale and a 5 point likert scale. The analysis of data was computed using the statistical software, Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). Results obtained have shown that there is no significant relationship between mobile phone usage during nights and no significant difference between gender and mobile phone usage during nights.
