Der Band kommentiert die ca. 125 Artikel Mendelssohns in den >Briefen, die neueste Litteratur betreffend< (1759-1765) und dokumentiert die Tragweite seiner Beiträge zu dem wichtigsten geisteswissenschaftlichen Organ der »Berliner Aufklärung«. Ferner bezieht der Kommentar die thematischen Verzahnungen der Besprechungen Mendelssohns mit denen seiner Zeitgenossen ein und lenkt erstmalig die Aufmerksamkeit u.a. auf Hamann, den noch unbekannten Kant, den Physiker Boscovich und den Biologen Leeuwenhoek. Zur Sprache kommen auch die bis dahin verkannten Verdienste Spinozas sowie die zeitgenössische Philosophie und Ästhetik. This volume provides annotations for the approximately 125 articles by Mendelssohn in the >Briefen, die neueste Litteratur betreffend< (1759-1765) (Letters concerning the Most Recent Literature) and shows the scope of his essays on the most important humanities-related institution of the »Berlin Enlightenment«. Moreover, the commentary includes the thematic connections between Mendelssohn's reviews and those of his contemporaries and for the first time calls attention to Hamann, Kant, still unknown at this time, Boscovich, the physicist and Leeuwenhoek, the biologist. The merits of Spinozas, still unrecognized at that time, as well as contemporary philosophy and aesthetics are also discussed.
