In the 21st Century, the museum still has the ability to establish itself as a site of negotiation and field of action for locating the individual and society, and can help to develop new forms of responsible and social action. As such, it can support the search for personal and collective responsibility for achieving democratically structured ways of living together. This volume presents innovative, international museum projects which are connected by a critical confrontation with the present which offers a range of possibilities: with respect to the future of collections, with respect to new fields and forms of cooperation, and in relation to current forms of education and skills transfer. With essays by James M. Bradburne, Gottfried Fliedl, Mark Taylor, Christoph Thun-Hohenstein and more.
