Can music tell stories? To what extent is music a narrative medium? Or is the storytelling of which we speak in reference to particular musical works and events a performance of something that is not itself part of the music - e.g. of a text, a dramatic contextualization, an image-quality or a reference, for example through a reference in the title? The contributions in this volume focus on these questions in interdisciplinary perspective, and in doing so, don't just make a contribution to musical aesthetics, but at the same time promote the dialog between philosophy and musicology.
