Proceeding from a constructivist understanding of the term 'nation', this volume containing the papers delivered at the Stuttgart colloquium on »German-French Perception Patterns and the Concept of National Identity in the 18th and 19th Centuries« re-views the question of the 'image' of otherness and the foreign conveyed by literature.
