Negative Capacitance in Ferroelectric Materials

This dissertation investigates the phenomenon of negative capacitance in ferroelectric materials, which is promising for overcoming the fundamental limits of energy efficiency in electronics. The focus of this dissertation is on negative capacitance in hafnium oxide based ferroelectrics and the impact of ferroelectric domain formation.

Michael Hoffmann received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. in electrical engineering at the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and TU Dresden in 2013 and 2016, respectively. After a 6 months stay at the University of California, Berkeley as a visiting student researcher he received a Ph.D in electrical engineering at TU Dresden in collaboration with NaMLab gGmbH in 2020.
