Otto Scheel (1876-1954)

Professor of ecclesiastical history in Tübingen and eminent expert on Martin Luther, from 1924 first professor of regional history in Kiel albeit with no scientific background in the field, protégé of the German foreign office in German-Danish cultural relations during the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich - the life of Otto Scheel (1876-1954) is multi-faceted. With regard to the three fields mentioned above, it offers an intriguing insight into the 'German 'Age of Extremes''. Therefore Carsten Mish does not only aim to draw the picture of an exciting and illustrious personality. The biographical access is rather meant to provide more far-reaching findings about the development of Luther and regional history research as well as the role of German academics in German-Danish relations from the German Empire to the Second World War.
