Paulos Mar Gregorios

>östlicherPaulos Mar Gregorios (1922-1996) was both a leading figure of the ecumenical movement and one of the most renowned representatives of the St Thomas Christians of India in the 20th century. His life and work can be seen as paradigmatic of an evolving ecumenical as well as global age. In the countless theological, philosophical, and political discourses that he influenced, he distinguished himself as an 'Eastern' thinker. At first glance, this seems to contradict the ecumenical and global character of his life and work. The present study shows the person and his work as an example of how global dialogue about unity can lead to a process of imagination and thus emancipation of one's own identity.
