The novel is a social critique as well as a love story. It is the fresco of a society on the way to extinction, of life at the boyar courts in Moldavia at the beginning of the 20th century. The characters are fictitious and the images and dramaturgy are reconstructed and filtered through the critical and ironic monocle of the author, the scholar from Buh?ie?ti.
