RELEVANCE OF PALMAR DERMATOGLYPHICS IN PERIODONTITIS

Periodontitis is a multifactorial disease that is a major cause of tooth loss. The complex pathogenesis of periodontitis implies the involvement of a susceptible host and a bacterial challenge. Many studies have provided a valuable contribution to understanding the genetic basis of periodontal disease. The present study was undertaken to investigate and analyze the significances of dermatoglyphics in predicating the susceptibility of an individual to periodontitis, as fingerprints and palm prints are emerging as an excellent tool for genetic research.
