Rezeptionsmodalitäten und Kinokultur

Magisterarbeit aus dem Jahr 2006 im Fachbereich Medien / Kommunikation - Methoden und Forschungslogik, Note: 1,7, Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: The study presented is based on the model of Rezeptionsmodalitäten (reception modalities) developed by Suckfüll (u.m.). The four-factor-model is a multidimensional construct of involvement in fictional films with the hierarchical factors of second order Identity Work and Trust and the factors of first order Imagination and Control. The factor Identity Work serves to explain the factors of first order Socio- and Ego-Involvement whereas the factor Trust explains the factors of first order Diegetic and Emotional Involvement. The work presented analyzed, if the four-factor-model of reception modalities is transferable to the US-American population. The author of this work presumed that because of country-specific aspects of the American cinema culture a transfer is only possible with some limitations. The validation of the hypothesis using an online survey was carried out from the 4th of August till the 15th of October with 261 US-American respondents. The data was analyzed by using an explorative factor analysis. For the US-American population four factors of first order could be identified. Those factors correspond to the modalities of Suckfüll (u.m.) Control, Imagination, Identity Work and Trust as far as possible. Mainly, there are differences concerning interfactor relations. So the hypothesis of the author was validated. Following studies in the USA using the model of reception modalities by Suckfüll (u.m.) could provide promising results, inter alia with regard to the operationalization and development of reception modalities for television.
