Sight-Singing 1

The aim of this first sight-singing volume is to instil confidence in singers and to present a method of approaching all aspects of singing at sight. Many of the melodies follow familiar shapes and rhythms, and use sequences to aid recognition of these patterns. Singers are encouraged to observe how to obtain their starting note from the introduction and to note the help with their vocal line that can be found in the accompaniment. A teacher and pupil-friendly approach valuable to both singers and instrumentalists - styles recognisable to both student and teacher - simple piano parts with chord indications - progressive examples beginning with just 3 or 4 notes and simple time values

John Kember studied at Trinity College of Music, London and has enjoyed a varied career in both performing and academic spheres, ranging from teaching in schools and privately, to working as composer, arranger, pianist and conductor in Concert Halls, theatres and recording studios. Currently John is working on a number of new and exciting projects for both publication and performance. He has a busy private teaching practice in south east London and teaches for Kent Music School and the Kent Centre for Young Instrumentalists in Maidstone. John was an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music from 1989 until 2005
