The volume discusses the use of pronominal subjects in the Spanish of Buenos Aires, using an approach that is both theoretical and empirical. Based on spoken-language data, the author firstly analyzes the influence of language-internal factors on theexpression or omission of pronominal subjects, and secondly discusses the syntactic and prosodic correlates ofovertly realizedsubjects and their different pragmatic functions in discourse.
