Britain's first flying machine was trailed in Perthshire in 1907 and ever since - whether at war or in peacetime - Scotland has been in the frontline of British military aviation. In Tartan Air Force Deborah Lake investigates Scotland's contribution to military flying over the last hundred years. Deborah Lake joined the Royal Air Force at the age of eighteen, and served in various locations around the world. She is a qualified pilot, and has also worked as an actor and has run her own business. Deborah is the author of numerous military books, translations and articles, as well as novels and dramas.
