The Countess of Rudolstadt

Consuelo was born as the impoverished daughter of a Spanish gypsy, but thanks to the great maestro Porpora she was transformed into an opera star. As the Countess von Rudolstadt she traveled through the continent meeting kings and rulers of eighteenth century Europe. After an ill-fated marriage Countess von Rudolstadt finds herself at the Prussian court of Frederick II, the enlightened despot of Prussia, being the center of intrigue and being courted by a very mysterious character.

George Sand (1804-1876) is a pen name of Amantine Lucile Aurore Dupin, a French novelist, memoirist, and journalist. She was one of the most popular writers in Europe in her lifetime, being more renowned than both Victor Hugo and Honoré de Balzac. Sand is recognized as one of the most notable writers of the European Romantic era.
