The Treasures

Hudson Valley, New York, June 1965: Alice is living with her parents in the gatehouse of the Kynaston estate. Her father manages the family's precious apple orchards, and every year when harvesting season arrives Alice helps her father to pick the ripe apples, shining like jewels, and wrap each one in wax paper. On the eve of her birthday that summer, Alice counts the treasures her dad has gifted her over the years - tiny figurine creatures, with a new one to join the collection the next day. But a tragedy occurs and Alice's dad is ripped from her life, taking her sense of belonging and home with it. As she grows up, she also grows further away from her mother and the land she used to love. One day she steps on to a train heading into Manhattan, and she never looks back. London, 1955: Tom has been torn from his home in Wales with his beloved father by his aunt and brought to London, whisps of the mystery about what happened to his mother all those years ago trailing behind him. There he makes a place for himself with an eccentric cast of friends who become his found family, until a phone call leads him back into the past and the truth about his identity, and onto a plane to New York City. When Alice and Tom's paths cross, a love story that will last a lifetime begins...
