The mystery is great - Jesus Christ and his church

Paul unfolds this mystery in the Epistle to the Ephesians, which he probably wrote around the year 60 A.D. in the prison in Rome, raving about the miracle and mystery of the Jews and the Gentiles, reaching into cosmic dimensions of the church and congregation of Jesus Christ. In doing so he has both the visible church in Ephesus, where he lived and worked as an apostle for three years, and the worldwide invisible church of Jesus Christ, of which only God knows who belongs to it. The letter to the Ephesians shows us the great importance of the church of Jesus Christ, which is determined by God from eternity to be a witness in the present and future world. Being a Christian without belonging to a local church or congregation is unthinkable from the New Testament. The church is the hope of the world. It is the only institution that endures beyond death. The sermons at hand, which take into account all chapters of the Letter to the Ephesians, have been developed on the background of decades of church practice.
