Naji al-Ali was a prolific and committed Palestinian cartoonist. He was murdered in 1982 in London. His cartoons aim to stigmatize the Israeli occupation in Palestine. In general, the cartoon plays a dual role, it criticizes while making people laugh. But with Naji al-Ali's drawings, cartooning teaches, cultivates, educates and adds concepts to consciousness. The research starts from the assumption that the signs used by the cartoonist reflect his identity. Therefore, our problematic tries to answer the following questions:- What are the aspects of the Palestinian identity in Naji al-Ali's cartoons?- What are the meanings of the signs used?- What is the relationship between the image and the text? - What stylistic figures designate identity? - What are the psycho-cognitive elements that constitute the image of identity in Naji al-Ali? We have used semiotic analysis. We consist in reading and interpreting the signs that represent the Palestinian identity. We have consulted the works of Saussure and Charles Peirce. We take advantage of cultural studies on psycho-cognitive criticism.
