Understanding and Addressing Girl Student Dropout in Chigumukire, Blantyre. A Socio-Economic Analysis

The research, through qualitative methods, explores various socio-economic factors contributing to this trend. Key factors identified include the cost of schooling and poverty, domestic chores, parental characteristics, cultural norms, early marriages, and gender disparities in the school environment. Interestingly, the study finds that the student-teacher relationship, being positive, does not contribute to dropout rates. This comprehensive analysis aims to shed light on this pressing issue and suggest actionable solutions to reduce the dropout rates of girl students, thereby supporting their continuous education and empowerment.
