Inhibition of ¿-amylase by Quercetin from Zephyranthes candida

Zephyranthes candida is a perennial herb and ornamental plant. It contains various phytochemical constituents like alkaloids, ceramides, flavonoids, lectins, minerals, proteins, amino acids, carbohydrates etc. It shows various pharmacological activities like antimicrobial, antitumor, antilishmanial, antiproliferative, Immunomodulatory, cytotoxic activities, etc, because of the presence of various phytoconstituents. Flavonoids are polyphenolic components has various biological and pharmacological activities like antibacterial, antidiabetic, anticancer activities etc; because of its importance, flavonoids were extracted at optimized conditions from leaves of Z. candidaand purified. ¿-amylase was produced from A. niger using fermented orange peel as substrate; to study the inhibition kinetics by quercetin. The purified Methanolic extract of leaves of Z. candida were used to study the antibacterial activity against different bacterial strains.
