The genre complex will be discussed within the specific context of the Dominican Republic, analyzing the impacts of changing social and political conditions throughout the 20th century. The author spent 6 months in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros in 2006. Her field work encompassed narrative interviews, field notes, participant observations, video and audio recording, as well as short interviews.
